It does not cover Ancient Egypt because that subject is too vast and requires a separate list to do it justice. Egypt was conquered by the Muslims in 639, and remained a satrap of one Islamic dynasty or the other until World War I but only notionally so after 1805. The reign of the Albanian Muhammad Ali Pasha from 1805 to 1849 is, therefore, considered the birth of modern Egypt.</p>
