<p>I just read your <a href="http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/12/the-horror-in-newtown-ctd.html" target="_self">post</a> about the reader who heard of the knife attack in China and pointed out the difference between that and <a href="http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/12/the-school-shooting-in-newtown.html" target="_self">Newtown</a>. But there&#39;s another point to be made: whenever I&#39;ve heard of the Chinese attack mentioned on cable news over the last few hours, it&#39;s to make the opposite point: the commentators have all said this is a sign that these attacks are international &#8211; the implication being that nothing can be done, not that the guns are at fault.</p>

<p>There is an entire&#0160;<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_attacks_in_China_(2010%E2%80%932011)" target="_self">Wikipedia entry</a>&#0160;dedicated to a spate of school attacks in China from March 2010 through 2011. They all involved blades of various types, as well as hammers. While today&#39;s attack in China resulted in zero fatalities, that series of six attacks resulted in 21 dead and some 90 injured.</p>

<p>For an average of 3.5 deaths per attack. Newtown alone is upwards of three dozen.</p>
