<p>He says <a href="http://www.politico.com/story/2012/12/exclusive-chuck-hagel-apologizes-for-gay-slur-85413.html#ixzz2FiJ7z8EK" target="_self">exactly what he should</a>:</p>

They do not reflect  my views or the totality of my public record, and I apologize to  Ambassador Hormel and any LGBT Americans who may question my commitment  to their civil rights. I am fully supportive of ‘open service’ and  committed to LGBT military families.” </p>

<p>That&#8217;s all I and HRC <a href="http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2012/12/sm.html">asked of him</a> and all that could possibly be asked for. The rest is smears &#8211; and there will be more to come, knowing how fanatical and ruthless the Greater Israel lobby is.</p>
<p> This is fast becoming a litmus test of whether an American president can nominate a defense secretary without getting the blessing of the AIPAC chorus. Yes, we have sunk that far. But this could be a turning point for a saner Middle East policy.</p>
