These two music-makers are currently close companions. I moved Arius out of isolation to a more socially and musically compatible locale well after Steinway Upright 1098 was sold. The space-saving that accrued was particularly beneficial.

Now that both grand and electronic live in side-by-side harmony (A 440-wise), I can slip under my acoustic and settle in for a round of nighttime practicing (with earphones), and by morning, after a digital hangover, shuffle over to my acoustic for a tone refresher.

Given this new physical arrangement, duet playing becomes a piece of cake with added perks: I have three Web Cams monitoring my movements to and from both instruments. Call it a SURVEILLANCE set-up. Seated at either “piano,” charged or un-charged, I can be magnified on a BIG MAC screen, and recorded if desired.

SKYPE students won’t notice any big changes, however, since I remain front and MAC-centered, teaching on the Steinway grand.

But just for the fun of it, I challenged myself to record Beethoven’s Adagio Cantabile (“Pathetique,” Sonata 8, movement 2) on Arius to validate her voice, since she might otherwise be trashed as a “plug-in.”
