Based on past history, I’ve been dreading a drop off in participation, which we had avoided so far, but it finally came this week, as only 221 folks cast votes.  That’s still pretty good, compared to what happened before, but I hope you guys can stick around for the last two weeks of voting.

Average number of teams per ballot also fell, to 6.6.  Given the lateness of the season, that isn’t a surprise.  Nor is this:

Random thoughts and speculation:

• Our Tier 1 (teams appearing on at least 90% of voters’ ballots) remains at three, but there’s more separation between Tier 1 and the rest of the field, as Georgia’s support dropped a little from Week 12.
• We and the selection committee swapped numbers one and two, but otherwise match through the top nine picks.
• Speaking of which, I can’t speak for the selection committee, but our assessment of the quality of the field really drops off after nine.
• Using our votes to devise a four-team playoff field is clear, but for eight teams, not quite so much, as Minnesota and Baylor are close.  That should be clarified with their next games.
