The surveys, which were released on the 13th May and collected on the 16th May, are a shock to both the Burnham Micropress and the Political Party leaderships themselves.

The first poll question asked “Is Mercia a ‘Christian’ country?” In response to this, the responders were split directly down the middle; 50% believe that Mercia is a Christian country, and 50% believe it is not. This no doubt comes as a shock to the National Liberal Party, who have ardently campaigned in the belief that a majority of Mercian citizens are Christian in their beliefs, and would therefore appreciate the retaining of the Mercian Christian Church as an organisation that is closely tied to the state. Of course, this result could mean that the Christian population of Mercia do not see the country as one that is a good political representation of their faith, but it could also mean that the National Liberal assumptions of the electorate were misguided.

The second poll question is far more damning, this time for the Humanist People’s Alliance. The question was “Is Mercia ‘oppressed’ by its Nobility?”, and apparently, the Mercian people do not believe this to be so. An overwhelming 83.3% of Mercians responded with ‘no’ to the survey, with only 16.7% of responders declaring that Mercia was indeed oppressed by its Nobility, a class that is inhabited by three quarters of the population (only ~25% of the nation are classed as ‘Subjects’, the rest being classed as ‘Nobles’ or ‘Lords’). This result does not bode well for the Humanist People’s Alliance, who have solidly argued that the proletarian Subjectship of Mercia needs to be liberated from bourgeouis Noble oppression. This close to the Nomination and Voting periods, it will be interesting to see if the Humanist People’s Alliance can shift such an entrenched view to appeal to Mercia’s floating voters.

The collected surveys were seen and responded to by approximately 12 people, approximately 60% of the Mercian nation’s populace. The surveys are therefore a fairly accurate representation of the Mercian people as a whole, which leaves both the National Liberal Party and the Humanist People’s Alliance in a slightly precarious predicament; campaigning respectively for an upholding of Christian tradition not necessarily appreciated by the majority of the nation, and for the liberation from the threat of oppression that does not necessarily exist.
