Guest Poet

We are the oldest and the newest
Our love is great when we are few
And fewer still when we are two
Our love feels somehow new

I know this as I say I don’t
How can we define love?
As something with a concrete rush
Is nothing from above

For what is love but something set
To be born and to die
And still exist for all of time
This truth won’t be denied

Then must come pain if there is love
Wait, why must this be true?
‘Cause if I won’t take all your shame
How then can I love you?

So if we pain and if we cry
Can we be called whole then?
Surely broken as we are
There’s still hope that we’ll mend

That hope is you who knows me true
My suffering and my joy
Who paints my dark with shades of life
Which save me from the void

As broken as we know we are
The two of us are free
It’s only if we know we are
That you can be with me

We’re not made whole, I speculate
As shining puzzle pieces
Born must ignite in union or
Our nights will remain sleepless

I’m trying to say in simplest words
We’re here not to be nothing
Rather we’re lost and must be found
We find these lost in loving
