A student crashed her car behind the 100 building of the El Dorado campus on Monday, March 5, around 8 a.m.

The student was driving into campus from the direction of the EduCare building and drove through an electrical pole and hit a tree head-on. The student suffered no major injuries.

The bottom half of the pole was destroyed by the wreck, but the lines were still intact, leaving the top half of the pole hanging from the lines.

It is suspected that the student was “probably exceeding the posted speed limit of 15 mph” and missed the curve in the road, according to Chief of Police Jason Kenney, “based on the heavy damage sustained by the utility pole and the vehicle.”

Shortly following the wreck, speed bumps were placed in front of the EduCare building, which were initially removed for scheduled road maintenance. They were scheduled to return after the maintenance, but it is not known at press time if they were placed in reaction to the wreck.

Update: According to Donald Rommelfanger from Facilities Management, the speed bumps were scheduled to be added that morning, and “[i]t was coincidental that [the] accident happened on the same morning the speed bumps were scheduled to be replaced.”
