On your marks, get set, go. The Butler Community College cross country season has begun, and it is off to a rocky start. In the last event, on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Missouri Southern State University, as a team the Butler cross country team took 19th out of 24 teams.

On the women’s side of the event both, freshman Hilda Kipruto and sophomore Claudina Constantine were highlights for the Grizzlies. [Kipruto] took 29th and [Constantine] took 40th out of 205 runners.

“[Kipruto] and [Constantine] ran well but could run a lot faster,” Coach Dustin Mettler said.

As for the men, injuries and sickness plagued the Grizzlies.

“We didn’t run two of our top five runners which hurt us tremendously. “Our top guy at the meet felt sick and we thought it was smart he drop out.” Mettler said.

The highest placed finisher for the Grizzlies was freshman Andrew King who placed 37th.

The next event for the Grizzlies is the Oklahoma Baptist Invite in Shawnee, Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 6.
