Charmed originally ran from 1998 to 2006, but a new version of Charmed recently debuted on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, on The CW and uploaded on to Netflix in September 2019.

Charmed is produced in Vancouver, a city in British Columbia, Canada. The American drama and fantasy television show, Charmed, is created by Jenie Snyder Urman, Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin with many guest directors throughout the season.

Plot/Cast:

The first of two seasons has 22 thrilling, edge-of-the-seat episodes that leave the need to watch again and again. Episodes on average are about 40 minutes long, but each episode works like a movie.

The three original main characters, Macy Vaughn (Madeleine Mantock), Mel Vera (Melonie Diaz) and Maggie Vera (Sarah Jeffery) come together after their mother dies to find out they are the charmed ones, which makes them the most powerful witches.

Their white lighter, Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans), brings the sisters together to let them know that they are witches and if they choose to accept it, together they would have the power of three.

Along the way, Harry is called upon to access and exterminate trouble, while teaching the sisters witchcraft.

Trouble comes in the form of Alastair Caine (Craig Parker), Hunter (Constantine Rousouli) and Parker Caine (Nick Hargrove), when Alastair becomes aware that the charmed ones, powers existed and to find the power source.

Special Effects:

The special effects were done so beautifully that it made this show a kind of magical realism, where the reality could be true and most things are normal, but small details tell you that reality cannot actually happen.

Harry, the charmed one’s white lighter, can be called at the sound of his name and can appear and disappear from a ball of light.

The monsters or demons the charmed ones fight have immaculate effects, CGI or prosthetics to enhance the effect of their character.

Relatability:

Like most new or rebooted television, Charmed is more socially aware. Maggie is a lesbian dating a homicide cop, Niko Hamada (Ellen Tamaki), while Mel is a struggling student in college that takes a liking to Paker (Alistar’s son). Macy presents a powerful female character as an African-American genetics scientist and was raised in a relatable setting in this generation of only one parent. Macy’s coworker and eventual boyfriend, Galvin Burdette (Ser’Darius Blain), sacrifices himself and advocates for the cause.

Charmed brings supernatural disguised real-world problems into focus. The show focuses on alternative family structures, unconventional relationships, gangs and a corrupt law system.

I give Charmed eight out 10 snap boards, for its relativism, special effects and the general plot. Season two aired on Friday, Oct. 11 on the CW. I am ready to get in my pajamas and grab the popcorn for this amazing new season.
