The following paragraph used to appear at the end of the sfgate story, and has vanished:

Perata said he never had the permit renewed when it expired two years ago because he “just never had the opportunity to re-qualify” at a gun  range. Perata obtained the permit out of security concerns stemming from his work regulating firearms.

Let me translate: “Regulate” means “make unavailable to honest citizens”. When he worked hard to disarm Californians, a few complained in, perhaps, inappropriate ways.  He claimed there were “death threats”. For the record, I think he was lying.

His response was to arm himself.

What a hypocrite and a coward.
