They have their dainties in a bunch over a controller at JFK <a href="http://voices.washingtonpost.com/federal-eye/2010/03/faa_blasts_kid_in_the_jfk_airp.html?hpid=artslot" target="_blank">letting his kid do the radio work</a> for a couple of minutes.</p>
<p>Listen to the audio at the above link. Several things are abundantly clear from it:</p>
<ol>
<li>The kid was only doing the talking, not any of the actual decision making</li>
<li>His broadcasts were clear and competent. (I&#8217;ve dealt with controllers who were a <em>lot</em> worse.)</li>
<li>Not one of the pilots on frequency had any objection at all.</li>
<li>Nobody was put in any danger whatsoever.</li>
</ol>
<p>If they want to attract more controllers (and Lord knows they have to) they need to lighten up about this.</p>
