‘Happy’ has cemented itself into the history of music as has the creator, Pharrell Williams. Pharrell has done just about everything and while he continues to recreate himself, he continues to add to his resume. Well, he’s no stranger to creating soundtracks as he’s produced soundtracks for Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2. This time around he’ll be curating the soundtrack for NBA 2K15 set to be released October 7th. He will be taking over the throne from Jay Z and Lebron James who curated the previous two installments of the game.
“I’m tripping out that we get to put this music out. This never happens — the system is never like that, where you look up and go ‘Wow, we just pulled that off.’ I’m pumped and excited.”
The track list will not be released until later this summer, but Pharrell did mention that System of a Down and Strafe will be featured on the soundtrack. A 2K Games rep stated it will be the biggest soundtrack to date for the franchise for the title.
With his latest album being titled, G I R L, women were not an afterthought when it came to creating this soundtrack. Pharrell always considers the ladies:
“There are girls that play the game and there’s a lot of girls that are around it … so I thought it’d be such an interesting twist to have the girls weigh in on the song list, because they listen to it just as much. I tried to pick an alternative approach, because how do you follow up LeBron and Jay? I gotta take a different route. When we finished looking at the list, it felt right.”
