We&#8217;ve been through tough times before and we will be again. <a href="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg"><img loading="lazy" data-attachment-id="6746" data-permalink="https://cherylbecker.wordpress.com/2015/12/01/library-photo-of-the-month-december-2015/img_0504/" data-orig-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg" data-orig-size="3264,2448" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.2&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;iPhone 5s&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1442673472&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;4.15&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;32&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.0010718113612004&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;latitude&quot;:&quot;45.126841666667&quot;,&quot;longitude&quot;:&quot;-87.241852777778&quot;}" data-image-title="IMG_0504" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg?w=300" data-large-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg?w=1024" class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-6746" src="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg?w=300&#038;h=225" alt="IMG_0504" width="300" height="225" srcset="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg?w=300&amp;h=225 300w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg?w=600&amp;h=450 600w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_0504.jpg?w=150&amp;h=113 150w" sizes="(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a>But we do need to think about the tough times, how libraries can survive, and how to convince the powers that be to fund them.</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p>Meanwhile there are those who might ask &#8220;who the heck would want to be a librarian today? (that is, during aforementioned &#8220;tough times.&#8221;)&#8221; In the article <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/public-leaders-network/2016/mar/05/librarian-professional-calling-priest-degree" target="_blank">Who Would be a Librarian Now? You Know What, I&#8217;ll Have a Go</a>, the anonymous author answers that question.  She&#8217;ll &#8220;have a go,&#8221; as the Brits say, because she can&#8217;t not. To her, it is a kind of calling. That&#8217;s the kind of dedication we need from those who will head up libraries tomorrow.</p>
<p>I had a go too, and I&#8217;m glad I did.</p>
