<p>My husband and I went for a drive to look at &#8220;the fall color&#8221; last week. We knew the leaves weren&#8217;t at full color yet but wanted to go on a day close to my birthday, and a day that wasn&#8217;t raining.  Here are two of the best shots:</p>
<p><a href="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg"><img loading="lazy" data-attachment-id="7114" data-permalink="https://cherylbecker.wordpress.com/2016/10/11/the-falling-leaves-drift-by-the-window/leaves-2016/" data-orig-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg" data-orig-size="640,480" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="leaves-2016" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg?w=300" data-large-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg?w=640" class="alignleft  wp-image-7114" src="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg?w=293&#038;h=220" alt="leaves-2016" width="293" height="220" srcset="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg?w=293&amp;h=220 293w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg?w=586&amp;h=440 586w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg?w=150&amp;h=113 150w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-2016.jpg?w=300&amp;h=225 300w" sizes="(max-width: 293px) 100vw, 293px" /></a><a href="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg"><img loading="lazy" data-attachment-id="7113" data-permalink="https://cherylbecker.wordpress.com/2016/10/11/the-falling-leaves-drift-by-the-window/leaves-16/" data-orig-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg" data-orig-size="640,480" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="leaves-16" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg?w=300" data-large-file="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg?w=640" class="alignright  wp-image-7113" src="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg?w=290&#038;h=218" alt="leaves-16" width="290" height="218" srcset="https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg?w=290&amp;h=218 290w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg?w=580&amp;h=436 580w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg?w=150&amp;h=113 150w, https://cherylbecker.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/leaves-16.jpg?w=300&amp;h=225 300w" sizes="(max-width: 290px) 100vw, 290px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>See, they&#8217;re pretty, but not as vibrant colors as some other years at this same time. Maybe they&#8217;re just turning later this year. Or maybe, the fall colors are just getting less vibrant.  True librarian soul that I am, I wanted to know more, and found these two articles about why leaves change color, and why the colors may be duller:</p>
<ul>
<li><a href="http://www.sciencemadesimple.com/leaves.html" target="_blank">Why do Leaves Change Color in Autumn?</a> (from Science Made Simple)</li>
<li><a href="http://www.livescience.com/39820-climate-change-fall-leaves.html" target="_blank">Why Autumn Leaves May be Dulled by Climate Change</a> (from Live Science)</li>
</ul>
<p>Admittedly, not a comprehensive search, but informative just the same. Anybody featuring fall color tours, books, photos, info in their libraries this month? Enjoy!</p>
