And you may wonder&#8221;Why?&#8221;</p>
<p><!--more--></p>
<p>Some say it started after Brexit, as a way of showing their support for the immigrants living in the country, and assuring that they’re safe with them: <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/the-poignant-reason-people-are-wearing-safety-pins-after-brexit_us_5773da43e4b0352fed3e8368" target="_blank">People are Making a Statement After Brexit</a>.</p>
<p>But years before that, <a href="https://timeline.com/safety-pin-brexit-trump-dutch-12ce84093550#.q3sp41sb6" target="_blank">During Nazi occupation, the Dutch wore secret safety pins to symbolize unity</a>.</p>
<p>So today, many are wearing safety pins <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/shortcuts/2016/jun/29/the-safety-pins-puncturing-post-brexit-racism" target="_blank">to show that they are &#8220;a safe person to sit next to on a bus, walk next to on a street, even have a conversation with.&#8221;</a></p>
<p>Libraries are safe places. I think you&#8217;ll see some people wearing safety pins there.</p>
