But if you are interested in management, or think you might be, go for it. AND, if it turns out you’re not good at managing or don’t like it, there’s no shame in returning to a non-management position.

To assist you, Letters to a Young Librarian has some tips—things that she’s learned from being a manager.  In some ways, I think her advice about being “relentlessly cheerful and cheerfully relentless” pretty much sums it up.
