BBC’s popular television program Doctor Who has been on the air since 1963. Its title character, the Doctor, is over 2,000 years old and has been traveling through time and space for almost all of that time. It goes without saying that such a character would inevitably encounter many strange and mysterious beings along the way.

Star Trek has not been on the air for quite as long, but the legendary crews of the various incarnations of the USS Enterprise have likewise run into countless alien beings.

On at least one occasion, the ancient Time Lord and the daring Star Fleet officers shared the same screen.

In the 2015 Doctor Who episode “Under the Lake,” the Doctor is shown standing in front of a mural depicting a dragon encircling a ship.

If you look carefully, you can just barely make out the occupants of that ship, wearing uniforms that will be instantly recognizable to any fan of the original Star Trek series.

The Doctor is too preoccupied to pay much attention to the artwork. Had he done so, we suspect he would have wryly observed that the fate of the individual wearing the red shirt was, sadly, a foregone conclusion.
