Quando dei à luz ao meu filho mais velho, em casa, em 2008, uma amiga acompanhou-me como doula. A sua presença e confiança no meu corpo e no processo natural do parto foram inestimáveis quando, depois de um parto simples, a placenta demorou bastante tempo a nascer e os pessoais médicos presentes estavam temeroso e a pressionar-me para transferir para o hospital.
Depois de algumas horas, expulsei a placenta, aliviada por ter confiado no meu corpo e por estar ainda em casa com o meu pequeno bebé rosado nos braços.
Desde aí, tornei-me defensora do parto não perturbado e das doulas. Acredito que uma mulher experiente e de confiança proporciona tranquilidade, apoio e um espaço de segurança neste momento crucial na vida de uma mãe e da sua criança.
Desejo agora oferecer este serviço a mulheres, os seus companheiros e famílias, para os apoiar na gravidez, parto e período pós-parto.
Em 2011, completei o curso Paramana Doula com o legendário Michel Odent e Liliana Lammers. Também me instruí e trabalhei com o Serviço Nacional de Saúde do Reino Unido, dando apoio e informação a mães acerca de amamentação. Por vários anos, tenho-me envolvido na facilitação de círculos de mulheres.
Encontro-me agora envolvida no movimento de activismo de parto Uma Mãe Nasceu, apoiando o parto domiciliário e os direitos das mulheres neste contexto em Portugal.

I was born in a London hospital with the cord around my neck, the youngest of three siblings. I now have three children of my own and live in the centre of Portugal with my lively family.
When I gave birth to my eldest son at home in 2008, a friend accompanied me as a doula. Her presence and trust in my body and the natural process of birth were invaluable when, after a straightforward birth, my baby’s placenta took a long time to be born, and the medical staff present were fearful and putting pressure on me to transfer to hospital.
After some hours, I pushed the placenta out, relieved that I had trusted my body and was still at home with my pink little baby boy in my arms.
Since then, I have been an advocate for undisturbed birth and for doulas. I believe that a trusted, experienced woman provides reassurance, support and a safe space at this crucial moment in the life of a mother and her child.
I now wish to offer this service to women, their partners and families to support them through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period.
In 2011, I completed the Paramana Doula course with the legendary Michel Odent and Liliana Lammers. I also trained and worked with the UK National Health Service to give support and information to breastfeeding mothers. For several years, I have been involved in facilitating women’s circles.
I am now involved in the birth activism movement Uma Mãe Nasceu, supporting home birth and women’s rights in childbirth in Portugal.
