<![CDATA[Petition fordert WHO zur Veröffentlichung der Daten über Geburtsmissbildungen im Irak auf]]>Die BBC hat von einer Studie der WHO und dem Irakischen Gesundheitsministerium zu den Raten
von Geburtsmissbildungen im Irak berichtet, die eine Verbindung zwischen 2003 heftig umkämpften
Gebieten und erhöhten Raten herstellt. Dies würde Berichte von Medizinern und Krankenhäusern
aus dem Irak, vor allem aus Falludscha, im Hinblick auf eine ernste Gesundheitskrise bestätigen.

Allerdings ist die Veröffentlichung der Resultate seit langem überfällig.

Die International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons (ICBUW), der die IALANA als Mitglied
angehört, hat – zusammen mit CHANGE – eine Petitionskampagne gestartet, die von der WHO eine
unverzügliche Veröffentlichung fordert:

Petition calling for WHO to make Iraq’s birth defect data public
The BBC has reported that a nationwide study into rates of congenital birth defects across Iraq,
which was undertaken by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Iraqi Ministry of Health (MoH)
will make a link between areas subject to heavy fighting in 2003 and higher rates. This will confirm
reports from doctors and hospitals across Iraq, but most notably in Fallujah, of a serious health crisis.

However publication of the results is now long overdue.

The International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons (ICBUW) – IALANA is member to – has,
together with CHANGE, started a petition campaign calling upon WHO for immediate publication.
