When the Kalos starters were introduced, I was torn between Chespin and Fennekin. I had decided to not go with Froakie for X and Y because I always choose the water starter and I wanted to mix things up, but then Game Freak relieved Greninja, and I was like “can’t change tradition!” But then I chose Rowlet for Alola, so there goes that pattern. I still nicknamed him Sir Samuel, since I can’t break every tradition. I’m not sure what I’ll do if I ever get lucky enough to land a female starter though. I guess I’ll name her Lady Sybil.
