My Patron, Sarah B, is an ancient water spirit who protects a desert village by a small oasis. Some upstart in the village has started saying that he speaks for Sarah B. No one knows how, but his house was suddenly washed away in a mysterious flash flood.

I didn’t really like the first episode of Rick and Morty, but the second episode is fantastic and a better entry point to the show. It’s got a nice blend of action, comedy, and drama that gives you a better understanding of what the show is like going forward than the first episode and you don’t miss a whole lot.

Lawnmower Dog plays with the trope of humans are the real monsters, casting humanity as a cruel race subjugating dogs. It’s played for laughs, but the episode does bring up questions of sentience and free will. It’s pretty deep for a show that has a whole episode devoted to Rick ruthlessly protecting his own personal toilet, an episode which is actually pretty emotional.

One thing that wows me about the show is the character and set design. Dimension hopping shows always work better in animation because you don’t have those pesky practical limitations that come from physical sets and make up, so you can really go to town with the weird stuff, like Scary Terry, a guy whose name I have misspelled as Scarry Terry five times already during the making of this pattern.
