It has been almost 5 months since I’ve joined youtube, and made my first video that I shared with the world!

I seen videos where people go and re-watch their older videos and just hate on themselves. It makes me so sad.

When I posted my first video I worked so hard on it. I spent a half day figuring out the backdrop, setting up my equipment, picking out an outfit, and doing my hair and make-up.

It took me a day of troubleshooting just to start editing the video. Then editing took 2 days. I was so stressed out about it, and if I let myself I probably would still be editing that video.

I spent another day doing the closed captions, tags, and writing an accompanying blog post. When that video went live I thought it was the greatest video to ever be uploaded on youtube, it was perfect!

Now that I’ve been on youtube for awhile, I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve grown and improved on youtube. I can see that when I watch my first video. It is the proof of my growth.

I wasn’t comfortable at all in front of the camera, and you can hear it. My voice is an octave higher in that video than in my newer ones. There wasn’t much in terms of editing. Now I now how to cut the audio, insert picture, do video with voice overlay, and I have a proper end card.

I also know for myself that my time management has improved. I’m writing this post same day that it will be posted. After I’m done, I’m going to start editing this weeks videos. That isn’t something that could have happened when I started.

Editing proved to be too time consuming. It why I dropped blogging because I couldn’t find the time. Now that isn’t an issue. I have the time to blog, promote, and get more involved in online communities.

I am still proud of that video, not because it is perfect and the best thing to grace youtube, but because I have proof that I am trying. Right now I think the videos I’m doing now are awesome. However I am looking forward to the day to a few month down the road when I can look back and see when else I’ve improved in.

My advice to anyone starting something new would be to not over sell yourself.

If you want to do something like youtube, then do that. Then get proficient at it. Once you’ve better at it then branch out into other areas to help yourself improve on youtube.

When I started Youtube, I tried running a blog, facebook page, reddit groups, facebook groups, and twitter. I dropped all of them. Now that I am finally better at youtube and it takes up less time I am branching out. The experience is less stressful and over all more fun.

Best of luck to you!
