It was a thrilling musical and spiritual event. At the start of the concert, tears welled up and I started to cry. So that was completely unexpected. I cried through the first two kirtans. I thought I would cry through the whole concert, but I felt joyful at the same time. Tears of sorrow or tears of joy–or maybe both. There were plenty of funny moments when I laughed out loud. Krishna Das was as cantankerous and inspiring as always. Take home quote of the day: someone asked him if he sang kirtan as a service to others. His answer: “I sing kirtan to save my own ass. It’s just that over the years my ass has gotten wider and wider and includes more and more people.”
