<p><span style="font-weight:400;">With so many students affected economically by the coronavirus pandemic,</span><span style="font-weight:400;"> FDU has released an online application for </span><a href="https://home.treasury.gov/policy-issues/cares"><span style="font-weight:400;">CARES Act Federal stimulus</span></a><span style="font-weight:400;"> funds for students.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400;">President Christopher Capuano </span><a href="https://fduequinox.wordpress.com/2020/05/05/president-capuano-details-fed-government-funds/"><span style="font-weight:400;">told The Equinox last week</span></a><span style="font-weight:400;"> that FDU will receive nearly $3 million earmarked for students as part of the $2 trillion stimulus package passed by the U.S. Congress in late March.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400;">FDU sent out an email on Monday, May 11, 2020, that outlined the criteria, and how a student can apply for funds.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400;">The deadline to apply for funding is May 23, 2020. The application can be found in WebAdvisor at </span><span style="font-weight:400;"><a href="https://webadvisor.fdu.edu/" rel="nofollow">https://webadvisor.fdu.edu/</a></span><span style="font-weight:400;">.  The form is located in the student’s menu under Financial Aid. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400;">Funds for students must be used to cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus, according to the United States Department of the Treasury. Eligible expenses include food, housing, course materials, technology, and child-care expenses. </span><span style="font-weight:400;">Loss of job or income does not meet the eligibility requirements for CARES Act funds.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400;">These four criteria must also  be met for an individual to be eligible to receive funding:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight:400;"><span style="font-weight:400;">Be enrolled in a degree-seeking program</span></li>
<li style="font-weight:400;"><span style="font-weight:400;">Have filed or will file the Free Application for </span><a href="https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa"><span style="font-weight:400;">Federal Student Aid</span></a><span style="font-weight:400;"> (FAFSA)</span></li>
<li style="font-weight:400;"><span style="font-weight:400;">Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress</span></li>
<li style="font-weight:400;"><span style="font-weight:400;">Not owe a refund on grants previously received or in default on any federal student loans</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight:400;">The student must also have been enrolled in at least one on-campus class prior to March 13, 2020.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400;">The money can certainly help individuals get back on their feet.</span></p>
