Rutgers University announced earlier today its reopening plan for the fall 2020 semester. Since Rutgers is the largest New Jersey university with multiple campuses and over 70,000 students, will it set the standard for other New Jersey colleges to follow?

Many universities across the country are grappling with the same decision making.

“This decision was not made easily or hastily,” Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway said.

The plan focuses on the majority of classroom instruction happening remotely, while some examples, including courses in the arts, laboratory or field work, and clinical instruction, will need to be in-person — with appropriate health-related precautions, Rutgers said. 

All campus events remain suspended and resident housing will be extremely limited this fall, Rutgers said.

Rutgers campuses athletics will follow the guidelines set by their respective athletic conferences.

FDU has not yet released an update regarding this matter, and other New Jersey universities still have plans for in-person instruction, 

So, the next few days of announcements from New Jersey colleges may reveal what Garden State higher education will look like in the fall.

Princeton on Monday said no more than half of its undergraduates will return to campus this fall, according to The Washington Post.
