In a special edition athletics roundtable series, The Equinox invited several athletes to talk about Black Lives Matter and the future of FDU athletics in the upcoming seasons.

With spring sports cancelled at the beginning of the season, the Northeastern Conference has delayed the fall sports season until Sept. 10. 

Track and field stars Roman Mioduszewski and Ben Clay III, alumni fencer Natalia Toby, alumni bowler Samantha Hart, and women’s soccer Sophomore defender Christa Waterman all joined this roundtable episode.

The guests discussed how everyone is doing during the Coronavirus pandemic and how each athlete was able to work online for the rest of the spring semester. 

Other topics of discussion include how each athlete has been staying fit during the pandemic and preparation for the fall sports season in their respective sport. Mioduszewski, Clay III, and Waterman were all excited to return and get back to playing the sport they love.

“I started working out recently this past month to focus on what I wanted to do and not what they gave me to do,” Clay III said regarding training during the offseason.

Lastly, Natalia Toby discussed her work with FDU Athletics and the Black Lives Matter, as well as how they have been organizing these virtual events through social media. 

The SGA held a “Take a Knee” event on Friday, June 5 where students and faculty knelt for 9 minutes and shared it on social media with the hashtag #UKNIGHTED4BLM. 

These athletes gave us a look into what their everyday lives have been during COVID-19 and how they have been handling their responsibilities as an athlete. They all hope to return to playing their respected sport as the NEC plans for the upcoming season.
