When the Giovatto Library reopens, current students, faculty and staff will be allowed in by appointment only in order to follow the University’s health and safety regulations. 

Library services are expected to run on a virtual basis until Monday, Sept. 14, as noted in a letter that was sent out exclusively to faculty and administrators, and shared with The Equinox. 

Librarians are an integral part of a student’s academic success, assisting students with resources for their work and helping them use the technology in the computer lab for optimal results. 

Walk-ins are not encouraged due to building capacity limitations, but library staff will try their best to accommodate students, the letter said.

“It’s very important that students know about our services during this very difficult and unusual time,”  Paul Dunphy, head research & instruction librarian, said via email to The Equinox. 

Research assistance is integral to services offered and will be available through live chat, email, text and Zoom appointments. Beginning Sept. 14, research assistance via phone and in-person reference appointments will go live, and in-person hours will be Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The Giovatto Library will offer several workshops throughout the fall semester on various research-related topics.

While the library stacks, collections and archives will remain closed to students, there will be pickup available for print materials.  

To check out library books, students are instructed to visit the online library catalog and sign them off using the “Send to My Library” button, according to the Fall 2020 Library Policies page. 

When finished, students and staff are asked to “return all books and other materials to the book drops outside of the libraries” instead of the Circulation Desk. 

All returned books will be handled according to staff COVID procedures and disinfected before checking in.
