In a second The Equinox daily news update, we’d like to acknowledge the live blog team who worked on the FDU Men’s Basketball game against Hofstra last night on Nov. 30.

The mens’ team lost 73-58 to Hofstra, with three Knights leading the team: Jahlil Jenkins with 17 points, Brandon Rush with 16 and Joe Munden Jr. with seven. Be sure to stay tuned for the live blog of the women’s game on Wednesday. 

Other than that, good morning, December! The fall semester’s stresses have come and gone with November’s end (well, except for those of us taking winter courses… it’s a fall 2.0). 

While virtual Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals can distract us temporarily — which is still better than wrestling the local Karen for a sweet deal on a smartwatch, in my opinion– the coronavirus pandemic is still a looming threat. 

From Nov. 26 to Nov. 30, Bergen County has reported at least 3,000 positive cases per day, peaking at 4,473 cases on Nov. 26. 

As of Monday, Bergen County has 35,000 cases and New Jersey has a grand total of 339,000 cases of COVID-19 — with the numbers expected to rise over the holiday season. To prepare for the surge in cases, Bergen County will be holding further mobile rapid testing opportunities that give results within 24 hours. 

The second wave is here, and many fear how bad it can get. 

As mentioned yesterday, Gov. Phil Murphy lowered the outdoor gathering limit, set to take place on Dec. 7. According to this latest order, groups are limited to no more than 25 people, which is down from the previous limit of 150. 

With New Jersey still grappling with gatherings over the holidays, FDU students don’t know what to expect next semester, especially with the announcement of possible in-person spring courses at FDU. 

Only time can tell; so sit tight fellow Knights, grab a warm blanket, some tea and get comfortable… it’ll be a long ride.
