COVID-19 cases increased to 614 new cases yesterday in Bergen County compared to a little over 500 on Thursday.

Yesterday. New Jersey reported 5,663 new cases, bringing the total number of cases to 358,000.

There is hope; six New Jersey hospitals have been chosen to receive a batch of new COVID-19 vaccines. The two vaccines, from Moderna and Pfizer, will be used to test operations in hopes of being approved by the federal government.

However, the vaccines can not be used unless authorized by the FDA in emergency scenarios.

In other news, Gov. Phil Murphy issued a new signed law on Friday for the legalization of marijuana in New Jersey. The constitutional amendment is scheduled to go into effect Jan. 1, 2021.

The bill is the framework in legalizing marijuana, such as restorative justice for minor offenses and the legal economic benefits of the cannabis market.

There is still much to be done, however, to regulate the industry such as the push to decriminalize possession and cease arrests.
