Get ready for how Hackensack firefighters are among those being affected during the pandemic,  a brief rundown of last night’s basketball games and the latest COVID-19 numbers.

Let’s get right into it. 

More than a quarter of the Hackensack Fire Department has been sidelined after COVID-19 exposure, including eight firefighters that tested positive, according to NJ.com. 

The 30 firefighters taken out of active duty represent 30% of the city’s 100-member fire department, embodying only a small portion of the looming coronavirus threat. 

As of this morning, there has been a 375-increase in COVID-19 cases, totaling at 38,602 for cases in Bergen County, according to Google statistics. The case numbers are stagnant in the 300-range for Bergen County this week, after a second-wave high over the weekend of 500 new cases a day.

New Jersey has 5,476 new cases as a whole, bringing the total, since March to 379,000.

In sports, the FDU Knights got their fifth straight loss of the season, falling to Central Connecticut 94-87 in the NEC opener. 

They are set to pick up today at 4 p.m. in the NEC round-robin play schedule. 

As for the women’s basketball game that was also set to play last night – it was cancelled late in the afternoon due to COVID protocols, making it the third game this season to be cancelled. 

They will return to action on Dec. 11 at home against NJIT in the final non-conference game.
