Politics, I think, has an undeservedly bad reputation as the locus of hypocrisy, corruption, greed and duplicity in society. It is also the realm of the greatest human triumphs; indeed, politics is the only means by which humans can live together. It is indispensable — not a necessary evil but a noble and honorable pursuit.</p>
<p>And it is impossible to overstate how vital it is to healthy societies that citizens understand, and can think critically about and discuss politics with a reasonable degree of sophistication. I spend a lot of time thinking and talking about politics, and much of what I write here is political in nature.</p>
<p>But much of everyday life is political too, if you pay attention.</p>
