The online journal of DS Hendler.

The WordPress blog is a continuation of a blog kept on Manillasites from March of 2001 to December 2005.

Email me.

Here is the old “About” page:

“Free Taco Here” is the slogan written on a target for the Mir space station. The Mir was tumbling out of space in March 2001, and Taco Bell’s promotion went such that if the core of the Mir crashed into the target, they would give every person in the United States a free taco. Every person. No, really. That sort of thing cannot go uncommented upon. [Note: Long John Silver’s gave out free shrimp when NASA found evidence of water on Mars, but there’s no Free Shrimp Here, as far as we know.]

Actually, the core/target thing was where I began thinking (okay, publically writing) about technology and personalization. Sort of a reaching out point. Because something that huge–a Russian space station that became the center of international cooperation crashing to the earth–is so big that you have to do something find your own spot in it.

What you’ll find here is mostly first drafts of experience. They say that the daily paper is the first draft of history. Before there’s a paper–or a story or a poem–there’s a blog. Welcome to this one.
