This year’s entry will be called Battlefield 5, according to a Tweet from EA Access. Surprise.

The account for EA’s digital game subscription service replied to a follower asking when Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline had been added to the vault of games available to Access customers.

"It was a surprise for members to celebrate the Battlefield 5 event tomorrow," it replied.

This won’t come as a surprise to many, given the game is being developed by DICE, which usually handles the core, numbered entries in the series.

However, there was some speculation that the series could return to the Bad Company spin-off seires, or eschew the trend of futuristic warfare in favour of something like Battlefield 1943.

Battlefield 5 will be fully unveiled at 4 PM ET/9 PM BST, when EA will provide "a first look at the future of Battlefield" on its Twitch page. EA has shared a brief video teasing what’s in store.

It was previously teased that the Battlefield series will return to "military-style game" and is already shaping up to be a "fun, new Battlefield."

EA also previously said Mass Effect Andromeda Titanfall 2, and Battlefield 5 would be out during fiscal year 2017, which runs from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017.

A teaser for TitanFall 2 has been released and EA plans to fully reveal the game on June 12.

2015’s Star Wars: Battlefront was also developed by DICE, which is responsible for the core entries in the Battlefield series. DICE has laid out plans to release free and paid expansions for Battlefront in the future.
