New gameplay details have emerged for The Last Guardian, Sony’s hotly anticipated action-adventure game.

Issue 294 of Edge Magazine has early impressions and an interview with designer Fumito Ueda.

The main character will have a "mirrored shield," which can shine a beam of light that acts as a marker for the creature, Trico, to fire a red lightning beam from his tail. Edge’s demo used this mechanic to solve environmental puzzles such as removing wooden walls and destroying rock faces.

According to Edge, Trico will apparently be a "free-spirited creature that fragrantly disregards your attempts to tame it." This lack of complete control of the creature is important to Ueda "because there are a lot out there where you can do that. I think I’ve had enough of them."
