Microsoft is really serious about this games-first strategy

Microsoft is no longer releasing the Xbox One TV DVR feature it first announced at last year’s Gamescom in August, sister site The Verge reports. The feature — which promised "full featured DVR functionality to Xbox One" but was limited to over-the-air broadcasts only — was scheduled to arrive this year.

"After careful consideration, we’ve decided to put development of DVR for Over-the-Air TV on hold to focus our attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming experiences across Xbox One and Windows 10," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge. "We’re always listening to fan feedback and we look forward to bringing more requested experiences on Xbox One, Windows 10 and Xbox Live this year."

This move is consistent with Microsoft’s broader goal of realigning the Xbox One as a gaming-first console, and follows similar moves to divest the organization of initiatives that weren’t focused primarily on that goal, including unbundling the Kinect and closing down Xbox Entertainment Studios.

We expect this year’s E3 to bring with it new hardware announcements, including a smaller Xbox One and possibly the announcement of a more powerful Xbox One — codenamed Scorpio — due next year.
