Mighty No. 9 is not out yet, but that hasn’t stopped creator Keiji Inafune from talking about having a plan for a sequel, even if nothing is locked in yet.

In an interview with 4Gamer, as translated by Siliconera (via Polygon), Inafune talked about the sequel as part of a wider comment on Mighty No. 9’s transmedia aspirations.

“One more thing I’d like to say is that Mighty No. 9 is a [set of] ‘contents,’ meaning it’s not just a game. We’re also moving forward in an anime and live-action film for it,” he said. “Development for a sequel is already in our minds, and we all share the feeling of ‘we’ll do it even if it doesn’t sell.'”

Also in the interview, Inafune spoke more about Mighty No. 9’s numerous delays, saying it was not the result of being understaffed, but instead came down to business considerations, among other things.

“[The reason of delay] was not because we were shorthanded, but due to how we were going to sell it,” he said. “And then biting more than we can chew after declaring that it will be released for all the hardware. But it was a good [learning] experience.”

Following multiple delays, Mighty No. 9 has officially “gone gold” and will launch on June 21 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, and PC. Versions of the game for Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita will come “at a later point.”

In other news, the head of Mighty No. 9 developer developer Inti Creates has expressed his dislike of a recent trailer for the game and blamed publisher Deep Silver for it.
