Microsoft’s E3 2016 Press Conference: New Hardware and Lots of Games

It was a press conference defined by new hardware, with the Xbox One S and the more powerful Project Scorpio getting announced. But there were a lot of games shown off, too, from big AAA games to small indie games. There were so many that it was easy to miss all of the games shown, so we’ve rounded them up into an image gallery.

Gears of War 4

Microsoft began with a bang, showing new gameplay of Gears of War 4. It started with a cinematic trailer and went into a demo, showing off some crazy new guns and the enemies you’ll be fighting. Gears of War 4 launches on October 11, 2016.

Killer Instinct DLC

Coming off the Gears of War 4 trailer, Microsoft announced that Killer Instinct would be getting General Raam from Gears as a playable character, joining the Arbiter from Halo and Rash from Battletoads as crossover characters. General Raam is available now.

Forza Horizon 3

The first big game reveal of the conference was Forza Horizon 3. Notably, the game will feature cross-play support between the Xbox One and Windows 10 versions. It’ll also have four-player co-op. It’s coming on September 27.

Recore

We got a look at Recore, the Microsoft exclusive from the designer of Mega Man, Keiji Inafune. Although Microsoft still hasn’t shown much gameplay, we did get a better idea of the game’s world and characters. Microsoft also announced Recore’s release date as September 13.

Final Fantasy XV on Xbox One

It’s the first Final Fantasy XV demo shown on Xbox One, and it’s a big one: the demo presents a pretty massive battle with a Titan. Final Fantasy XV launches on September 30. Check out our impressions of the demo here.

The Division: Underground DLC

We got a brief look at the upcoming expansion for The Division, called Underground. It’ll task you with exploring randomly generated tunnels and subways underneath New York. It’s coming to Xbox One and PC on June 28 and to PS4 on August 2.

Battlefield 1

Microsoft rolled the trailer for Battlefield 1 that we saw yesterday and announced that it’ll be playable nine days early for Xbox One EA Access members, on October 13. If you don’t have EA Access, it will be available on October 18 if you buy the deluxe version and October 21 if you buy the regular version.

Minecraft Realms and the Friendly Update

Minecraft is still wildly popular, and Microsoft wants to make it even bigger. It’s launching cross-play with Windows 10, iOS, Android, and Xbox One versions of the game through an update called Realms. This update is Xbox Live-powered, meaning you’ll get to unlock achievements even if you play on your iPad.

Inside

Inside, the next game from Limbo developer Playdead, is coming to Xbox One on June 29. It got a very short trailer showing off some of the environments in the game. In addition, Limbo is free this week for Xbox One owners. Check out our preview of Inside here.

Cuphead

Microsoft showed a sizzle reel of indie and smaller games coming to Xbox One, including Studio MDHR’s retro-style Cuphead.

Outlast II

The sequel to the acclaimed horror game Outlast also appeared in the sizzle reel.

Deliver Us The Moon

Deliver Us The Moon, a Kickstarted adventure game in which you attempt to extract resources and save humanity by exploring the Moon, showed up in the sizzle reel.

Flinthook

Tribute Games is bringing its upcoming 2D platformer Flinthook to the Xbox One later this year.

Far

Far is described as an "atmospheric vehicle adventure" and it also showed up in the sizzle reel.

Slime Rancher

In Slime Rancher you attempt to create, well, a good slime ranch while also exploring the in-game world. It’s a 3D shooter, of sorts, and it’s coming to Xbox as well as PC later this year.

Shadow Tactics: Blade of the Shogun

Mimimi Productions’ "stealth-oriented real-time tactics" game appeared in the sizzle reel and will launch later this year.

Figment

Figment, a very pretty adventure game by Bedtime Digital Games, was revealed for Xbox One in the reel.

For The King

For the King is a turn-based, roguelike RPG from IronOak Games, announced for Xbox One in the reel.

Beacon

Beacon, an adventure game, also showed up in the sizzle reel.

Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley was officially announced for Xbox One in the video. The developer later announced the game for PS4 and Wii U, as well.

Hand of Fate 2

Defiant Games’ sequel to its action card game Hand of Fate got confirmed for Xbox in the video.

Below

Sword and Sorcery developer Capy Games’ Below has been in a long time in coming, but it also was briefly shown in the indie sizzle reel.

We Happy Few

The bizarre dystopian adventure game We Happy Few got a lengthy demo during the press conference, and it showed some of the game’s very dark narrative. At the end, the main character gets assaulted and pursued for being a "downer"–someone who goes off the "joy" drug.

Tekken 7

With a long cinematic and gameplay trailer, Bandai Namco announced that Tekken 7 is coming to PC and Xbox One early next year. The trailer also teases the game’s story mode.

Dead Rising 4

Confirming a stream of leaks over the past few days, Microsoft announced Dead Rising 4, the next installment in the popular zombie-killing franchise. And it’s got even more ridiculous weapons, such as the triceratops helmet/flamethrower you can see in this picture. Dead Rising 4 is coming this holiday season.

Scalebound

Showing huge-scale battles with several other players and dragons, the Scalebound demo gave us a good look at cooperative gameplay and the earphones-wearing main character.

Sea of Thieves

Microsoft finally showed off Sea of Thieves gameplay, and it looks great. It’s a multiplayer exploration game from Rare in which you and a team can take control of a pirate ship. Teams of players can then battle each other in their ships.

State of Decay 2

One of the biggest surprises of the press conference was State of Decay 2, the follow-up to the rough but entertaining zombie game from Undead Labs. There was very little gameplay shown off, but the game’s world looks beautiful.

Halo Wars 2

Finally, Microsoft showed a bit of Halo Wars 2 gameplay and a story trailer. We learned that the game will be a direct sequel to the story of the original Halo Wars, and it’ll feature a new sect of Covenant enemies called the Banished. Halo Wars 2 is coming out on February 21, 2017.
