Buy a taunt for $1.99, a skin for about $4.99

Battleborn, the hero-shooter from Gearbox that launched at the beginning of May, will introduce microtransactions tomorrow. The game will also begin selling virtual currency in lots ranging from $1.99 to $49.99.

The currency, "platinum," will be used to acquire skins and character taunts at first, though Gearbox may open up the microtransaction catalog later to allow purchase of extra loadouts or boost a user’s XP.

Taunts cost 230 platinum, and $1.99 buys exactly that much. A skin costs 430 platinum. A 700 platinum pack costs $4.99, 1,625 platinum runs $9.99, 3,500 costs $19.99 and 9,300 will set you back $49.99.

Gearbox vows that the premium items will not affect gameplay, and reiterated that it has a lot of free content coming, such as new heroes, maps, modes and other updates.
