Got a dollar to spare? Here’s some games

Until July 4, the Steam Summer Sale is offering hundreds of games at a discount. From major price cuts to new games on the cheap, we’ve rounded up some of the greatest deals you should check out.

If you just want to get as many games as possible for as cheap as possible (like, $1 cheap), here are the sub-$5 games you should be picking up.

Transistor: $4.99 (75 percent off)

Transistor is stylish, but it’s got hours worth of gameplay too. We raved about the look, sound and combat in our review.

Fallout: New Vegas: $4.99 (50 percent off)

New Vegas deviates from other games in the series, thanks to developer Obsidian Entertainment — and a team by Fallout 2 designer Chris Avellone.

Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition: $4.99 (75 percent off)

The first Dark Souls game still holds up.

Jet Set Radio: $1.24 (75 percent off)

If you missed your free copy earlier this year, here’s your chance to grab this rad title.

Her Story: $2.99 (50 percent off)

We voted this FMV-style mystery novel as our top game of 2015.

Gone Home: $3.99 (50 percent off)

As for Gone Home, that was our favorite game of 2013.

Papers, Please: $4.99 (80 percent off)

Papers, Please, according to our review, is kind of miserable — in the best way. It’s a puzzle game like few others.

Grow Home: $3.99 (50 percent off)

Grow Home‘s getting a sequel later this year, making now a good time to check out the quirky, earlier game.

Downwell: $1.49 (50 percent off)

Downwell might be the coolest game of 2015. Warning: The vertically oriented shooter might get you to turn your computer sideways.

BioShock and BioShock 2: $3.99 each (80 percent off)

Picking up these two games now is especially smart, considering you’ll get their remastered versions at no added cost when they launch in September. (These also received among the Summer Sale’s deepest discounts.)

The Sims 3: $4.99 (75 percent off)

It’s The Sims. You should know what to expect — or, if you don’t, it’s only $5, so now’s the time to find out. (We called this one of the sale’s biggest discounts as well.)

Psychonauts: $0.99 (90 percent off)

If you haven’t played this cult classic by now, there’s no excuse to keep holding out on it at that price. (This is one of our biggest discount picks too.)

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons: $1.49 (90 percent off)

This charming, pretty game is heartbreaking without being overly sentimental. (It’s also got one of the deepest discounts.)
