Rockstar Games has just announced the official backwards compatibility support for Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox One. The incredible western from the makers of Grand Theft Auto will be available to Xbox One owners by way of Xbox 360 backwards compatibility this Friday, July 8, 2016.

If you owned the game on the Xbox 360, just pop the disc into your Xbox One and you’ll be able to perform a brief download and installation to get rolling. If it’s the digital copy that you owned when you played on the Xbox 360, you’ll see the content already exists in your library once it’s officially added on Friday. The same goes for DLC like Undead Nightmare (which is amazing, by the way).

Looks like I’ll be hitting the ol’ dusty trail once more. I just hope the Xbox One is able to run areas like Tall Trees just at touch better than the Xbox 360 did. Red Dead Redemption is an absurdly pretty game, but those framerates up in Tall Trees weren’t so hot.

Who’s playing Red Dead this weekend?
