Bethesda has gone in to more detail about how mods will work in Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition remastered on Xbox One and PS4.

Fresh off the back of QuakeCon, where Bethesda launched the beta for online card game Elder Scrolls Legends, communication boss Pete Hines said that the Skyrim Special Edition’s mods will work in the same way as Fallout 4.

This means that existing mods will need to be run through creation kit and published on Bethesda.net before hitting PC.

Once this happens, brand new and existing mods will be available to download and play on Xbox One and PS4.

It was also revealed that while old mods will work with the game, 32-bit mods will need to be upgraded to 64-bit.

“The idea is that it’s exactly the same way [as Fallout 4],” Hines told GameSpot.

“Skyrim Special Edition on PC is free only if you own Skyrim and all of the DLC… It also has a new creation kit.

“It doesn’t just work with all of the existing mods; they will have to take that mod and run it through the new creation kit and publish it to Bethesda Net. Then that would be available on console.”

Fans of Fallout 4’s mods will also be happy to learn that Bethesda will continue to work on console modding, and that any improvements will make their way to Skyrim.

Hines has already addressed rumours of a potential delay on PS4. Some fans were worried that delays to PS3 Skyrim DLC and the lack of Fallout 4 mods on PS4 would lead to similar things happening with the Special Edition.

With someone pointing out that Bethesda’s track record on PlayStation hasn’t been great, Hines replied: “PC mods on a console have never been done before. It comes with challenges.”

On top of the additional DLC packs, mods will deliver new quests, environments, dialogue, armour and weapons.
