Put those team leader designs to good use

An update for Pokémon Go is currently rolling out, Niantic confirmed, and while it’s light on features, the addition it does bring to the game is a big one. Version 0.35.0 (on iOS) or 1.5.0 (Android) comes with the new Pokémon Appraisal tool, which will finally clue trainers in on how good their Pokémon really are.

Lending a hand there are Blanche, Candela and Spark, the heads of the respective Team Mystic, Valor and Instinct. Depending on which one you sidled up to after hitting level five, you’ll be treated to a quick read on any of the Pokémon in your party. (You’ll also get to see their character portraits, unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con and appearing in-game for the first time.) Appraising your Pokémon happens in the main Pokémon menu; it’s an option found on the individual Pokémon info pages.

Although the judgment passed by the team leaders is valuable, it might not be specific enough for players who have already been deep into stats training their toughest Pokémon. Appraising a Pokémon doesn’t give any quantifiable answers as to their future potential at the gym — but it does give you a sense of just how tiny your Lapras really is.

Pokémon Go will receive "several new and exciting features" in later updates, Niantic said. Discover the rest of the things you can do in the game in our guide.
