One of Johnny Depp’s next movie roles may have been revealed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Depp will star in the upcoming movie Labyrinth as the real-life Los Angeles police detective, Russell Poole, who investigated the murders of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur in the ’90s.

Labyrinth is being directed by Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer, The Infiltrator) but doesn’t have a release date yet. This movie is based on the book Labyrinth: A Detective Investigates the Murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G, the Implication of Death Row Records’ Suge Knight, and the Origins of the Los Angeles Police Scandal. It is probably for the best that the movie’s title isn’t that long.

It was Poole’s belief that a group of corrupt police officers, in association with Death Row Records, had something to do with the death of Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace. Poole had run-ins with the LAPD police chief then ultimately retired early in the wake of the fallout.

Depp’s latest movie role was for this year’s Alice Through the Looking Glass. He also played Donald Trump in Funny or Die’s TV movie Donald Trump’s The Art of the Deal. In 2015, Depp portrayed the real-life Boston mobster Whitey Bulger in the crime drama Black Mass.

Looking ahead, Depp is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, while he’s also been eyed for the lead role in the remake of The Invisible Man.
