Streaming giant Netflix delivered some good news to Bloodline fans in July when it confirmed that the drama was getting a third season in 2017. Now, some less-than-great news has come to light for fans who want to see the show continue into further seasons.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming third season of Bloodline will be the show’s last on Netflix. Ten episodes will debut in 2017, which is the same number of chapters from Season 2, though it’s fewer than Season 1’s 13 episodes.

Licensing fees were also slashed for Season 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which added that Bloodline producer Sony Pictures TV and Netflix denied tensions exist between the two companies.

It remains to be seen if future seasons of Bloodline could air on a different network. Series creators Todd Kessler, Glenn Kessler, and Daniel Zelman have said they had five or six seasons mapped out.

Another element to this story is that Florida cut its entertainment tax incentive programs recently. This happened before Season 3 was given the green light, so the new season stands to be more expensive.

Todd Kessler told The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year that the lack of tax incentives "makes things more difficult."

As the site points out, it’s rare for Netflix to cancel a show. The only two Netflix originals that have been canceled were Lilyhammer and Hemlock Grove; both shows were axed after their third seasons.

Main cast members Kyle Chandler, Sissy Spacek, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, and Norbert Leo Butz will return for Season 3 in their Rayburn family roles.

The recent renewal is good news for Bloodline fans, as Season 2 ended with a massive cliffhanger.

While Bloodline‘s first season was widely praised by critics, Season 2 didn’t get such a positive response. John Leguizamo and Andrea Riseborough joined the show for its second season.
