It’s always great to see inventive Steam releases finally make their way to the iPhone, especially when many of their unique mechanics are a perfect fit to touch controls, and normally at a far more palatable price of entry. RETSNOM [$0.99] – taking a leaf from the Alucard book of naming – is the next game to follow in the illustrious path of PC ports, and with an incredibly cool concept of being able to alter the construction of levels to progress, is sure to distinguish itself from the abundance of other platforming titles on the App Store.

In the critically acclaimed indie release from Somi Games and Magic Cube Software, you play as a man trying to save your daughter from a zombie virus, and must visit the future and steal a medicine that can save her from an undead fate. However, the scientists in the future are hiding within a maze of mirrors, so the protagonist has to flip and rearrange certain aspects of levels to progress and eventually find the cure for your daughter’s illness. While this story may seem somewhat baffling, RETSNOM comes together to convey a really powerful narrative, and with multiple endings is far more than simply another platformer with a brooding premise and an admittedly awesome gimmick.

With some beautiful pixel art graphics and a typically atmospheric soundtrack, RETSNOM – or MONSTER mirrored – is as clever as its name suggests, and a whole lot of fun for any platforming fans, or anyone who may have liked the more ethereal approach to some recent indie platforms such as Limbo [$4.99]. Best of all, RETSNOM is on sale for $0.99 to celebrate its launch, which is almost five times cheaper than the Steam iteration, so be sure to take advantage of this release promotion, and share your impressions on our forum thread.
