The standard issue Xbox controller is fine, but if you really want to kick things up a notch, there are some truly great Special Edition controllers you can pick up!
Since the Xbox One’s launch back in 2013, Microsoft has launched an array of unique Xbox controller designs, while also adding the option for you to create your very own with the Xbox Design Lab.
If you want something a little more intricate though, here are some of the ones currently, and previously available!
Covert Forces
The Covert Forces Special Edition Xbox Controller comes with a military gray camouflage pattern. It’s also a second generation Xbox controller, meaning that it features a 3.5mm audio jack.
This controller is no longer available from the Microsoft Store, but it’s still being sold on Amazon, so grab it while you can!
Halo 5 Guardians
To promote Halo 5 Guardians, Microsoft created two special edition controllers that celebrate the game’s two leading characters. One sports military green to represent Master Chief, while the other is a futuristic gunmetal gray to represent Spartan Locke.
These controllers aren’t Xbox One S controllers, but they are second-gen, meaning they come with 3.5mm sockets for headphones. They aren’t generally available anymore, but there are still a few available to purchase on Amazon.
Dawn Shadow
The Dawn Shadow controller features a striking metallic magenta fading to matte black finish.
As an Xbox One S controller, this peripheral does support Bluetooth for use on Windows 10 devices and features improved texturing on the grips. This is a stunning controller for collectors.
Blue
This blue controller is additional option for those who aren’t enticed by the standard white or black controllers available with current Xbox consoles.
It’s also a third-generation Xbox One S controller, meaning it features Bluetooth, in addition to improved grips and the 3.5mm jack upgrade from the previous generation.
Red
Joining the standard blue color is an all-new red version, currently available in pre-order on the Microsoft Store.
This crimson-colored controller is an Xbox One S generation peripheral, giving it Bluetooth capabilities.
Lunar White
Collectors may have a hard time finding a new Lunar White controller, which went on sale during 2015. The Lunar White controller features satin gold d-pad and triggers, giving it a premium look.
If you’re interested in picking one up, there are a few available on Amazon for a high price.
Gears of War
To celebrate the launch of Gears of War 4, Microsoft created two unique controllers to celebrate the game’s brutal universe. They’re also Xbox One S controllers, bestowing them with Bluetooth.
Etched with lasers, these meticulously textured controllers represent a great purchase for any Gears fan, and they’re still available in limited quantities at the Microsoft Store.
Gears of War Elite
Microsoft raised the bar for special edition peripherals with this Gears of War Elite controller.
Etched with lasers, with brutal battle scars and several layers of detail, this Gears of War Elite controller is the ultimate purchase for any Gears fan.
As an Elite controller, it features removable joysticks, fully configurable buttons, interchangable d-pad options and four additional paddles for extra tactical control.
There are a few available on Amazon, but be prepared to pay a high price!

There are a few other Special Edition controllers out there, such as a custom Forza Motorsport 6 controller, and one Microsoft did for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, but their availability has completely dried up.
