The network is just waiting on a script

FX’s adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s comic book, Y: The Last Man, is a little bit closer to starting production.

Nick Grad, FX’s head of programming, gave an update on the series that’s been in development since 2015. Showrunner Michael Green is working with Vaughan on a script for the show and FX is just waiting for it to be delivered. Green is also currently working on Starz’s American Gods, which he’s co-running with Bryan Fuller.

“We’re supposed to get a script in the next couple months,” Grad said, as reported by IGN.

Y: The Last Man follows Yorick Brown — the last surviving human with a Y chromosome — who sets out on a mission to uncover the what led to the extinction of the world’s male chromosomes. The comic ran for 60 issues between September 2002 and March 2008 under DC’s Vertigo imprint.

Grad also confirmed the series would be an ongoing drama, akin to The Americans and The Strain instead of a limited or anthology series. Some of FX’s most acclaimed series over the past few years, including The People v OJ Simpson, American Horror Story and Fargo all fall into the latter two categories.

Grad didn’t have an update on when fans should expect to see Y: The Last Man premiere on FX, nor did he give any hint as to whether casting for the project had begun.
