He’s not done with the franchise just yet

Bryan Singer will continue working on the X-Men franchise, moving from the big screen to tackle Fox’s new live-action series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Singer, who directed X-Men, X2, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and the most recent X-Men: Apocalypse, has been tapped by Fox to direct the pilot for showrunner Matt Nix’s series. The show follows a family, living under a hostile government, who are forced to go on the run after they discover their children are mutants.

Nix will pen the script for the series, with Singer on board as an executive producer. Singer is also currently producing FX’s Legion, another mutant-centric series born out of the X-Men franchise. Unlike the untitled X-Men series on Fox, Legion will not necessarily acknowledge the events of the films, which dates back to 2000. Instead, it will run adjacent to the movies, according to showrunner Noah Hawley (best known for Fargo).

Singer will not return as director for the next feature-length X-Men installment, and Fox is currently looking into ways to reconfigure the franchise. Apocalypse made $200 million less than its predecessor, Days of Future Past, but still managed to pull in $543 million worldwide.

There is currently no release date for Fox’s new X-Men series, which is being made in partnership with Marvel.
