Final Fantasy XV‘s director, Hajime Tabata, says he wants to bring the game to PC.

Tabata told Famitsu (translated by Gematsu), "I’d like to release the game on PC as a technical attempt. I want to show PC users Final Fantasy XV running on high-end machines."

He went on to say that he and the developer, Square Enix, would like to explore the possibility of "playing with PC-exclusive features like making your own quests and enjoying the world using things like mods."

Elsewhere in the Famitsu interview, Tabata says there are currently no plans to expand the world, despite videos online suggesting new areas could come to the game.

"Those videos made use of glitches," the Final Fantasy veteran said. "There is a large map being used on the train route in the second half of the game. Since that area isn’t completely made, opening it up as an area you can freely traverse is difficult as is.

"We might remake playable areas in future expansions, but since that would take a year, it is not currently in our plans. For argument’s sake, if we were to prepare new fields, Insomnia would also be a candidate, but that also would take a year’s worth of work."

Final Fantasy XV launched in November 2016, but only on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In March last year, Tabata said he was "aware of the big call for a PC version," but stated that no such port was in development at the time. Previous Final Fantasy games have come to PC–XII, IX, and XIV Online: A Realm Reborn are all on Steam, for example.

In other Final Fantasy XV news, the game’s upcoming DLC release dates have been announced. The closest DLC pack lands on February 21, while the next arrives March 28. Another expansion will add four-player co-op featuring all four main characters. Square Enix has not set a date for this pack.

Final Fantasy XV’s first add-ons were themed around holiday content and Moogles. All of Final Fantasy XV’s DLC is included with the game’s $25 DLC pass on PS4 and Xbox One.
